Carefree handling has been a promise and expectation ever since optical discs have been developed. Yet, with today's conventional DVDs, scratches, dirt and fingerprints are still among the most prominent causes of record/playback errors, which, at times, may render a disc completely useless.

Enter our Super Hard Coat DVD. A DVD so hard you could clean it with kitchengrade steel wool without risking your recording. A DVD which finally keeps the promise of ultimate reliability even under somewhat severe conditions of use, yet conditions which are all too normal.

Applications

  • Audio, video and data recording with maximum operational and archival life span;
  • All DVD applications involving adverse environments;
  • All DVD applications involving frequent passing around of discs;
  • All DVD applications involving potentially careless handling.

Scratch Resistance - 100 times greater than conventional DVD

The greatest advantage of Super Hard Coat DVD is its great resistance to scratch. We have conducted an abrasion resistance test by repeatedly rubbing a spinning wheel abraser over the recording surface of the disc.

The result shows Super Hard Coat DVD has marvelously low abrasion with minimum increase of jitter and PI error rate even after many rotating cycles of the wheel abraser. Scratch resistance (by calculating the rotating cycles of the wheel abraser until the PI error rate of the DVD reaches the maximum level of DVD-R/RW specification) of Super Hard Coat DVD is about 100 times stronger than a conventional DVD.

Hence, the Super Hard Coat DVD offers unsurpassed protection against scratches caused by mishandling and excessive wiping during cleaning process, it also decreases substantially possibility of recording surface scratches during insertion into slot-in type DVD drive/player, carriage of disc or outdoor usage.

Dirt Resistance - Dirt can be removed completely with just light wipe

The disc surface of Super Hard Coat DVD is extremely smooth with a mere 0.44 friction coefficient, remarkably lower than 1.19 of conventional DVD*. As a result, it is easier to wipe off contaminants and even accidental food and beverage spills without damaging the disc.

Dirt Resistance - More than 10 times stronger than conventional DVD against fingerprint

The disc surface of Super Hard Coat DVD is superior in its dirt repellant characteristic. Increase of error rate after fingerprint sticking test is below 1/10 of a conventional DVD. In other words, Super Hard Coat offers more than 10 times resistance against fingerprints and contaminants.

Artificial fingerprint label was used for this test. After applying the label on a conventional DVD, the DVD will playback with tracking feature.
As tracking does not work on conventional DVD with fingerprint contaminant exceeding this level, the DVD fails to playback; hence it's impossible to measure values.
Reference test method:: JIS K2246 Fingerprint clearance assessment.

Anti Static - 18 times faster than conventional DVD in reduction of electrification by half

The Super Hard Coat DVD comes with anti-static characteristic. While conventional DVD requires about 900 minutes (about 15 hours) to reduce electrification voltage by half, Super Hard Coat DVD takes only about 50 minutes to do so, a 1/18 of conventional DVD. This anti-static feature repels dust accumulation and hence improved the disc's reliability.

Electrification Voltage and Diminish Time

Initial value of electrical potential was recorded after distribution of electrical charge stabilized after electrification (10kV).
Reference Test Method: JIS L1094 Electrification test of textile.

High performance and great reliability - Use only high-sensitivity dye (DVD-R), hi-sensitivity phase change materials (DVD-RW) and other top quality materials and technology

Super Hard Coat DVD is a high performance and highly reliable disc thanks to our state-of-the-art master cutting technology, high-sensitivity dye (DVD-R), high-sensitivity phase change materials (DVD-RW), great precision injection moulding etc. which are exclusive for each different format. Thank to these stringent quality controls of materials and processes, high-fidelity image recording and stable data record/reproduction has been realized by our Super Hard Coat DVD.
