TDK backs up small businesses
with DAT 72 data cartridge
Singapore, 8th March 2004 -- Today TDK launches a new cartridge
specifically designed to deal with the increased volume of data
that businesses need to back up.
TDK's DAT 72 cartridge is capable of backing up 72 gigabytes (GB)
of data - meeting the needs of small businesses that are realising
the importance of data back up for disaster data recovery. The cartridges
are designed to help IT managers of small, home or medium sized
offices minimise the risk of losing important business data, such
as sales transactions, customer databases, emails and graphics.
No bigger than conventional DDS cartridges, DAT 72 reduces shelf
space at a reasonable cost - providing a solution for small offices
where data size is rocketing, but budget is not.
TDK's DAT 72 has a uniform, even coating that enables a stable
signal output resulting in fewer errors. In addition, new binder
material ensures that the tapes are robust and durable, reducing
the chances of lost data, saving both time and money.
DAT 72 is the fifth generation of DDS cartridge, the most popular
type of data tape accounting for 50% of the overall data tape market.
A major advantage of migrating to the DAT 72 is that as the drive
can read and write to previous generations of DDS cartridges, such
as DDS 3 and 4, so access to old data is still assured.
Toshikazu Yahata, TDK Marketing Manager commented: "With the
amount of data the average business stores increasing year on year,
it is vital that it is stored properly. IT managers are realising
the importance of back up, however, they are under constant pressure
minimise IT cost. TDK's DAT 72 provides ample data capacity for
their needs and future, in a compact size, with high reliability
and at a competitive price."
